Hello Parents,
Thank you for your patience and support! Your students have been working so hard! We have completed several assessments in class over the last week to give us a better idea of where your child is at and how we can best help them grow this year. Literacy This week will be Wonders Unit 1 Week 1. I sent home a homework pack today, and homework will follow that same format every week. Included in the packet is a spelling list, spelling homework (word search and vocabulary matching), fast and fluent sentences (please time your students 3 times a night while they read that), and the reading log. This can be turned in on Monday of next week. I will be sending home some fun games to play with spelling words! We will not be having a spelling test this week. Our first spelling test will be next Thursday. I will also give a weekly comprehension test every Thursday based of the strategy, skill, grammar, vocab words, etc. that we have been discussing for the week. This will also begin next week. Spelling words:
We will be finishing our I-Ready diagnostic in class and beginning Ch.1 - 3 this week! I will send homework home each night for extra practice! This will not be a large part of their grade, it is simply extra practice. Homeroom We are learning about the Growth Mindset in homeroom as we continue to build community in the classroom! Friday Online Computers borrowed on Friday need to be returned on Monday! If you did not receive a computer last week and you will need one let me know! I have changed the set up for "turning in" assignments on Friday. Make sure to click "done" on the assignment so I can see you logged on. Also, any paper work should be turned in on Monday! Distance Learning It was so wonderful to see my distance learning students last Friday! I will be uploading videos starting tomorrow. I also will reach out to connect with students on Friday to zoom and discuss the week! Ideally we will be live zooming by the following week. Hello everyone! If you are receiving this email that means I am your child's teacher for Literacy/Homeroom and/or Math. You can look on Aspire to see which class(es) your student is in. This is going to be a year of adjustments and adaptations for all of us, I ask that you be patient and flexible as we work through challenges together.
I sent home a disclosure with your child today, you will find it in their B.E.E. folder. They will take this folder home everyday and bring it back each morning. Some of your children also brought home their lanyard with their lunch number on it. I only sent this home with students who informed me they would be eating breakfast at school. Please make sure they bring it back to school! I have them use this while they memorize their number. If you do not know your child's lunch number or have an lunch account set up yet, that information will be on wasatchpeak.org. Literacy This week we will be giving our Beginning of Year assessments to see what reading level our students are at. It is important that your child is here so we can give them that assessment. Distance Learning, I will email you to schedule a time to come in on Friday for this assessment. Next week we will begin our Wonders Reading Program and students will receive their first list of spelling words. Math This week we will be giving our Beginning of Year assessments in math as well! Again, it is important that your child is here for these. Distance Learning, I will email you to schedule a time for this as well. Next week we will begin our MyMath program and starting our math lessons. Homeroom We will be getting to know each other and building community this week in Homeroom! Distance Learning and Friday Online We have a handful of students who will be participating in full online learning. Students will access the classroom through Google Classroom and through Zoom later on. All of the assignments and lessons will be posted daily for completion. I will try to live stream lessons on Zoom, which will be the easiest way for distance learning students to stay caught up on work. There will also be days where I will upload the lessons to google classroom later in the day. Assignments will be assigned online and on paper. Students need to drop off completed work to WPA by the end of the day on Thursday. Each week I will write on the top of the papers the day of the week that the assignment needs to be completed. When you return papers on Thursday you will be turning in Thursday - Wednesday from the previous week and you will be picking up Friday - Thursday. I know that may seem confusing at first, but we will get the hang of it together! I will be available for consultation via Zoom on Fridays. On Fridays, everyone will be participating in online learning. Each Friday, you will log into Google Classroom and find the current date and complete the posted assignments. If there are papers that go with the assignments I will send them home on Thursday. Log in format: classroom.google.com Username: [email protected] Password: first letter first name + first letter last name + lunch #wpa! (js1234wpa!) The lunch number of your child can be found on Aspire! The instructions posted on Google Classroom Monday - Thursday are only for Distance Learning Students and students who are not able to join in class. The instructions on Friday are for everyone! There may be times during the year where your child may have to be quarantined, whether they are exposed to COVID-19 or they test positive. In this case you would follow the same procedures of getting on Google Classroom and Zoom to complete assignments during the two week quarantine. Google Classroom Codes: Bailey Literacy / Homeroom: hvdaj55 Bailey Math: zshjwj5 Art K-2: NSO4CDG P.E. K-2: 3vcaxfr Drop Off / Pick Up Please be patient as we are working through the confusion of the mornings and afternoons. Please take a few minutes to talk with your child where you will be picking them up after school. There is a front or side option. (The back parking lot was a little less busy). Again, this will be a year of learning for everyone. I may not have the answers right away, but I will do my best to always find the answer or a solution. Thank you! |
