Literacy This week will be Wonders Unit 1 Week 4. Remember to hold on to the Fast and Fluent sentences, this and the reading log can be turned in on Friday! Sound Focus: short o Grammar: Questions and Exclamations Comprehension Strategy: I can ask and answer questions Comprehension Skill: Key Details Genre: Realistic Fantasy + Nonfiction Spelling Practice: When you practice spelling the words with your child encourage them to sound each word out and identify the "short o" in each word. Math We will be starting Lesson 3 and completing the quiz this week. Math homework is still varied as we work into the new routines. Again, I would rather have your child complete 10 minutes of hard work than complete the entire page. Or, if they complete the page quickly ask them if they can solve any of the problems another way or act it out with you. Let me know if you have any questions!

These are just to practice reading sentences, it is okay if you do not want to time your child. I understand sometimes that can put unnecessary pressure on them! It is simply another way for you and I to see their progress! I will be sending a weekly email every Monday to inform you of important events, our weekly schedule, and anything else going on in our classroom. I believe communication is key to creating a strong home to school connection and I encourage you to always reach out with any questions! Today I sent home several items:
Literacy This week we will be going over rules and expectations and giving students our Beginning of Year Assessment to adapt our instruction to meet everyone's needs and skill levels. We will be starting our Wonders literacy program this week which will review kindergarten concepts. Students will not have spelling words for the first week of school. When students have spelling words there will be a spelling packet sent home on Monday's to be returned on Friday's. I will also add the spelling words in my weekly email. Math This year we are using a new math curriculum. This week we will be reviewing concepts and going over rules and expectations. Reminders There will be a letter from Mrs. Pilkington every Wednesday. These letters contain important information that I will not cover in my emails. Please read through these thoroughly. If you are not receiving this, check in with the front desk. After we get into our routine, I will inform you about volunteering in the classroom! Please reach out with any questions! We will be taking our Unit 4 Benchmark this week so there will not be spelling words. A new reading log will be sent home on Monday, students may turn this in on Thursday for an extra credit point. Reading Logs will begin to count for a grade starting 4th term. A new fluency passage will also be sent home on Monday for students to practice! This week we will have our Valentine's Day Party on Thursday. If you signed up to bring something, please send it with your student on Wednesday so I have time to set it up! Thank you! Thursday 2/11 is our Valentine's Day Party. We are still allowing students to pass out Valentine's if they would like to. Any treats need to be store bought and individually wrapped. We ask that you do NOT lick Valentine's/envelopes closed. There are 26 students in my class. You do not need to write names on the "To:" spot but please fill out the "From:" spot. To help us maintain safety, we are not allowing decorated boxes to be brought from home this year. We will provide a paper lunch bag to put Valentine's in and then we will staple it closed with recommendations for quarantined shared items. Literacy: I will be sending a fluency passage for students to practice reading. This does NOT need to be returned to school, it is just for practice. This week will be Wonders Unit 4 Week 3. The weekly homework packet is due Thursday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night.
