Hello Parents,
This Month: Tuesday 2/2 is our 100th day of school!! Students do not need to dress up but if they want to they may wear 100 of something on their clothing or they may dress up as a 100-year-old person. Thursday 2/11 is our Valentine's Day Party. We are still allowing students to pass out Valentine's if they would like to. Any treats need to be store bought and individually wrapped. We ask that you do NOT lick Valentine's/envelopes closed. There are 26 students in my class. You do not need to write names on the "To:" spot but please fill out the "From:" spot. To help us maintain safety, we are not allowing decorated boxes to be brought from home this year. We will provide a paper lunch bag to put Valentine's in and then we will staple it closed with recommendations for quarantined shared items. Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 4 Week 2. The weekly homework packet is due on Thursday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. I sent home a fluency passage today that students can practice reading! Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. The spelling test will be on Thursday. Starting this unit, the way vocabulary words are assessed has changed. Students will only be assessed on two vocabulary words. They will need to match the definitions, but they will also need to write two sentences using each of those words. There is practice for that on the weekly homework. I am sending home a new reading log today! It will have students write the title and retell three things from the book. Spelling Words:

Hello Parents,
I hope you have a had a wonderful weekend! Announcements: We have had some issues with taking care of our computers. PLEASE help your child take care of their computer. If it is damaged they are not able to take one home for Fridays until it is repaired. I have discussed this with students as well, but water bottles should not be placed in the same area as the computer in case it is not 100% leakproof. We have also had issues with Pokémon cards, so as a team the 1st grade teachers have decided cards are not longer to be brought to school. Thank you! Literacy: This week will be Wonders Unit 2 Week 5. The weekly homework packet is due on Thursday. Your child should be reading 20 minutes every night. Please practice the spelling words and vocabulary words with your student every night. Our spelling patterns are getting more difficult each week, so it will be very beneficial if you practice the words at home. The spelling test will be on Thursday. I thought it may be helpful to add what our phonics focus is each week to give you an extra tool to help your child study. This week our phonics focus is ch, -tch, wh, and ph. Our review words include sh, and th. Practicing these sounds and what letters make up these sounds will be more beneficial than memorizing the spelling word. Spelling words:
